Indhu Rubasingham’s experiment with putting more commercial work in the small Dorfman theatre than the large Lyttelton continues apace with a revival for Jim Cartwright’s beloved 1992 play about a meek working class Yorkshirewoman who finds a measure of liberation from her awful, domineering mother via singing in a local club. Francesca Mills stars as the woman known only as Little Voice in this revival, which is directed by National Theatre deputy Robert Hastie. Jill Halfpenny plays her mother Mari, and in a remarkable piece of casting Paul Chuckle – yes, that Paul Chuckle – plays club owner Mr Boo.
