In the wake of the #BlackLivesMatter protests, artist and curator Ruby Holland decided to create Area Noir, a digital gallery giving Black culture space in the luxury art world. The London-based online independent gallery is a place where people can buy and discover art by exciting new emerging Black and brown artists from around the world. It displays work from 20 artists, each hand-selected by Holland, who explore feelings of identity, Afrocentrism, belonging and surrealism. For four days only and, very conveniently in the run-up to Christmas, the gallery is going IRL with this pop-up at Redchurch Studios. So you can pick up works with your own hands (just as well now Royal Mail’s on strike) and tell the artists you like them with your own mouth rather than slipping into their DMs. How novel.
