The complicated emotion triggered by the sound of the London Air Ambulance's beating rotor blades is equal parts dread and relief. You're aware that something awful has happened to someone but you know, too, that the presence of that red helicopter means there's a better chance that things are going to turn out OK. What you may not realise is that, although the service is integrated into the NHS, it's a charity, funded by donations. As part of National Air Ambulance Week (September 24-30), Londoners are being asked to wear red for the day and collect money from colleagues and friends in aid of the London Air Ambulance service. To register, contact Amanda Crozier on 020 7943 1302 or email a.crozier@londonsairambulance.co.uk.
