Friends, it’s that time again. Mince pies are already on shelves, advent calendars are waiting to be cracked open, and pumpkins have been swapped out for wreaths. Batten down the hatches because the festive spirit is sweeping across London, with Christmas cheer spreading from borough to borough.

Nowhere is it felt more than in the iconic heart of the capital, where Regent Street and St James’s get a dazzling Christmas transformation, marking a Londoner’s proper start to the festive season. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ lights, here’s why you should head to Regent Street and St James’s as we start the countdown to Christmas.

Take in the enchanting lights

When it comes to Christmas in London, the lights on Regent Street and St James’s are a pretty big draw for Londoners and tourists alike. And it doesn’t get bigger than the switching on of the lights on Thursday Nov 6, where pop-up musical performances mark the occasion. Head to the heart of the West End and gaze up at the installation made up of over 30 sparkling ‘Spirits’ spread out across Regent Street and St James’s, including St James’s Market and the Quadrant Arcade. After the big event, the daily switch-on kicks off on 7 November, running until Sunday 4 January 2026, where the lights will twinkle every day from 3pm until midnight.

Choose Love returns

This unique pop-up shop returns to Regent Street, allowing shoppers to give meaningful gifts this Christmas. Buy children's coats, hot food, sleeping bags and life-saving medical care for displaced people around the world. While these gifts won’t come home with you, they’ll bring comfort to those in need. Everything you buy supports Choose Love's work with refugees and displaced people globally this winter. And, if you’re lucky, you might spot a celebrity face behind the tills helping out with your purchases.

Shop ‘til you drop

When you’ve finally managed to break your gaze away from the lights, it’s time to get to the serious work of Christmas shopping. Regent Street is known as the Mile of Style for a reason and nowhere does Christmas quite like the flagship stores that line the street. Secure goodies for tiny tots at the magical wonderland that is Hamleys, or treat a loved one to a decadent hamper from Fortnum & Mason in St James's.

Tuck into a festive feast

Worked up a post-shop appetite? Thankfully, you’ll be surrounded by renowned restaurants with all kinds of festive dining to choose from. Get your fill at FishWorks on Swallow Street with their set Christmas menu, embrace your inner carnivore at Argentinian steakhouse Gaucho or push the boat out for a glitzy dining experience at The Ritz with all the traditional trappings. You can find more global fare on Heddon Street, including the colourful Aussie brunch spot Ziggy Green, the Mexican fonda-inspired Fonda and the authentic Punjabi eatery Ambassadors Clubhouse.

With a little something for all of us, Regent Street and St James’s are the places to be this festive season.
