Got a whole lotta neighbourhood pride? So do we. On the new episode of our second season of the podcast ‘Love Thy Neighbourhood’, our editor Joe Mackertich is taking a tour of Nunhead with the comedian Phil Wang

Discover interesting finds with funny stories and moments of insight on episode two. From a perfect pub to a sought-after restaurant, and even one of the city’s most charming cemeteries, the episode promises to be one heck of a listen. Have a listen to it here.

As ever, we have the mobility super app FREENOW on board. It’s never been easier to get around London, as you can book four options: private rides, Black Cabs, eScooters and eBikes, all from your phone.

Of course, we’ll let Phil show you his version of Nunhead. But before you rush to download it, here are a few of our favourites to inspire you. And don’t forget to subscribe!

We’ve only gone and named this Nunhead pub the best in London. So really, you can’t miss the chance to pay Skehans a visit. A friendly neighbourhood local, this place is popular with both its long-established neighbours and the art school students attending nearby Goldsmiths. Coming hot out of the kitchen is a mouthwatering menu of Thai food, while karaoke, Irish trad music nights, quizzes and a pool table offer endless amounts of entertainment.

Considering plant parenthood? The Nunhead Gardener is home to a massive selection of indoor and outdoor plants, pots, barks and soils, plus tools, feeders and garden decorations. That’s not all the knowledgeable staff are helping you find, candles and diffusers are available, too, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to improve their flat's zen quality. Since its inception in 2015, the business has blossomed with outposts in Mayfair, Elephant Park and Camberwell, but none are as great as the original venue.

Don't leave things to chance. There’s no need to try and hail a cab, thousands of London's expert Black Cab drivers are available at a few taps of an app with FREENOW. Better yet, your average wait time is just four minutes.

Nothing beats the combination of pizza and booze. That’s a fact. And BAR D4100 does both really bloody well. These freshly baked slices come topped with a variety of familiar and inventive flavours, including La Parmigiana and Margherita, alongside signatures like the D4100 pizza bianca with anchovies, tomatoes, mozzarella and garlic oil with the chef recommending a topping of lemon and rosemary or jalapeno. The drinks menu is equally enticing, with a wide selection of wine on tap, spritzes, cocktails and everyone's new favourite obsession, orange wine.

FC Soper’s has been serving the local community for more than a century since it opened in 1897. While a lot has changed in that time, Soper’s reputation for flipping good fish hasn’t, as it continues to offer fresh finds from Cornish day boats and Billingsgate Market. Almost all of them are line-caught, too. Stop by to see why it's such a revered Nunhead operation.

Explore more of the area! Book London's iconic Black Cabs at the tap of an app with FREENOW. Black Cabs can use bus lanes, which means you no longer have to sit in busy London traffic and you have more time to sightsee.

A fun fact about The Ivy House: it’s London’s first cooperatively owned pub. Saved from closure by locals in 2012, after the owners gave their tenants one week’s notice to ship out after selling the property to developers, it now hosts live events most nights of the week. Friendly staff welcome locals of all ages for mates-rates pints of locally brewed ale, carefully sourced pub food and a plethora of exciting activities. Stop by for hearty Sunday roasts, live music, knitting circles and kids’ dance lessons, all set in a stunning wood-panelled Grade-II listed building.
