An exhibition exploring William Heath Robinson's reputation as the 'gadget king', looking at his cartoons in relation to the technological developments of the early twentieth century. In particular, the show examines Heath Robinson's portrayal of his compatriots as engaged in highly unlikely tasks, as well as his parodies of the efficiency of the 'Huns' and the Nazis in the two world wars. Also on show is work by Gerard Hoffnung (1925-1959), who was born in Berlin and settled in London as a child, becoming known as a cartoonist with a very English sense of humour, who made musical life his central subject.
