Long distance runners of all abilities take over the city for this world-famous race. Grab a place on the sidelines and cheer them on
Join the crowds of spectators lining the 26.2 mile route of the world-famous London Marathon and cheer on your favourite runners as they break a sweat while wending their way through the capital. You'll find the largest crowds at Tower Bridge and Embankment and the emotional finish of the Marathon takes place on the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.
The Queen will be opening this year's Marathon from the grounds of Windsor Castle; you can watch live footage of her pressing the 'start' button on big screens at Blackheath where the main race begins. Keep an eye on the London Marathon website for details of road closures and spectator information for this year's route.
If watching this year's runners pound the pavements inspires you to attempt the marathon yourself, you can always enter the ballot for 2020. Taking part for charity is another option if you're a dab hand at fundraising. Check out our guide on how to enter the London Marathon 2020 here.
