One of the reasons that London is such an exciting city to live in is the sheer diversity of things to do in it. From zany ballpit bars to blissed-out gardens, muddy BMX tracks to heavenly spas, our city is a freakin’ textural masterpiece. It’s a similar story with Cadbury’s new Break Bar – its layers of crunchy biscuit, smooth milk chocolatey filling and bold milk chocolatey base deliver equal measures of intrigue, indulgence and intensity, which also happen to be the three things you need for an extraordinary weekend out in London.

So to celebrate this landmark moment of chocolatey, biscuity innovation, we got together with Cadbury to curate an extraordinary weekend in London that delivers as much variety as the three textures of their new Break Bar.

Be warned: you’ll need a good lie down come Sunday evening...

The treasure troves of vintage postal paraphernalia are reason enough to head to this fascinating new museum, but to check out its star attraction, you’ll need to venture underground. The Mail Rail is a six-mile stretch of track opened in the 1920s that used to ferry letters and parcels from one end of the city to the other. It closed in 2003, but it’s now been turned into a ride where museum visitors can learn all about the history of the service and the people who worked on it. Just be prepared to catch yourself whistling the ‘Postman Pat’ theme tune for the rest of the day.

15-20 Phoenix Place, WC1X 0DA.

For indulgence... Cosy up at a fancy cinema

Sticky floors? Stale popcorn? A numb bum? That’s no way to experience the movies. Instead, book yourself into Electric Cinema in Notting Hill (there's another in Shoreditch) and you can catch the latest blockbuster from the comfort of a cosy armchair, with a little side table to pop your drinks and snacks on. The most indulgent way to watch a movie is, of course, on your own, but there are also sofas for couples. Either way, don’t forget to grab a cashmere blanket on the way in!

For intensity... Try rafting at Lee Valley White Water Centre

No need to catch a flight to South America to experience adrenaline-pumping watersports – just hop on the train to Waltham Cross. A legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games, Lee Valley White Water Centre offers kayaking and canoeing sessions for all abilities, but newbies are probably best suited to multi-person inflatable rafts (you’re all quite literally in the same boat). All your kit is provided, and there’s even a man-made beach to crash out on afterwards, though don’t expect to head home with a Brazilian tan.

For intrigue... Seek out the hidden Japanese garden in Holland Park

Surrounding a grand Jacobean mansion, there’s plenty to enjoy on a stroll through Kensington’s dreamy Holland Park. For an extra dose of tranquility, though, follow the signs to the Kyoto Garden: a park within a park, featuring a waterfall that flows into a koi carp pond, exotic plants and a couple of resident peacocks. It’s a unique spot in the city that doesn’t feel like London at all, so pack a picnic (or just a round of Cadbury Break Bars) and a good book to prolong the illusion.

For indulgence... Chill out in a seductive spa

Oxford Circus may be towards the bottom of the list of London’s most blissful bits, but that just makes escaping into the tranquility of the Langham Hotel’s Chuan Spa an even more calming, detoxifying prospect. Treatments take their lead from traditional Chinese medicine, and promise to restore balance to body and mind. If all that sounds a bit hokey to you, the Finnish sauna and bubbly ‘vitality’ pool ought to do the trick. You’ll leave so chilled out you probably won’t even tut at the slow-moving tourists on the way back to the tube.

For intensity... Go ice-karting at Queens Skate, Dine, Bowl

The beauty of a night out at Queens is that you can tailor the experience according to just how much action you’re in the mood for. Most people should be able to handle slinging a few balls down the neon-lit bowling alley, but taking a go-kart for a spin on the venue’s indoor ice rink is an experience for true thrillhounds only. Either way, expect an amped-up version of your best ever teenage birthday party – plus cocktails!
