What’s your summer persona? Maybe you’re the adventurer, using your precious holidays to climb mountains or speed through forests on a bike. Perhaps you’re more chill-seeker than a thrill-seeker, spending your downtime at a spa, or maybe you’re looking for a destination that caters to the whole family.

Whoever you are, there’s an exceptional Gstaad holiday for you – and Switzerland Tourism can help you find it. Below, we’re breaking down four kinds of Gstaad summer holidays: the action-packed adventure, the glamorous getaway, the family holiday and the blissed-out break.

In the holiday region Gstaad, authenticity meets indulgence. The lush nature and fresh Alpine air make it perfect for those looking to truly unwind with a slow travel experience. Here, sophistication comes from simplicity: think hidden mountain huts, flower-filled meadows and traditional wooden chalets. It’s also a foodie paradise, with world-famous local produce, including cheeses like hobelkäse and gstaad mountain cheese (including the 7 XXL fondue pots with the fondue backpack, which you can rent from the local dairies), saanensenf local mustard and dried meats, as well as charming mountain restaurants offering seasonal menus, 318 Gault Millau points and three Michelin stars.

With average summer highs hovering around a pleasant 20°C, with up to 30°C in July and August, visitors can explore the area on foot, by bike, or from the comfort of a cable car. And it’s not just the stunning setting – there’s a whole lot of exciting events going on, including an ATP 250 tennis tournament and a country event with performances by talented Nashville artists, alongside a globally-inspired curated line-up.

Action-packed adventure

Like getting active on holiday? You’re in the right place. If cycling’s your thing, try the 890 Saanen-Rellerli route, which winds through hidden valleys. More of a hiker? The W29 La Videmanette loop offers spectacular views of the Bernese and Vaudois Alps.

Where to stay: Berghotel zur Sau, Abländschen

This rustic-chic mountain hotel is surrounded by the dramatic Gastlosen peaks and is a great base for those who want to get out and explore the area on foot. Plus, with just 30 inhabitants and a focus on the region’s heritage and seasonal cuisine, it’s the ideal place to relax into slow Alpine living.

What to do: The Alpine Coaster at Glacier 3000

If you’re looking for a real challenge, you could go up 3,000 metres to the highest rail toboggan run in the world. It soars down the mountain at speeds of up to 40 km/hour on a one-kilometre stretch, through ten curves, six waves and three jumps. Not for the faint of heart, this.

The glamorous getaway

Gstaad is so much more than the spectacular mountain scenery: it’s also home to some seriously chic hotels and glamourous events, so you can live out your Great Gatsby dreams.

Where to stay: Hotel Palace

A true architectural gem from the 1920s, the hotel really shines in the summer thanks to its Olympic-sized outdoor pool, the Piscine. Heated to 23°C, it’s the perfect spot to do some laps or simply sunbathe while taking in the grandeur of the surrounding peaks.

What to do: Hublot Polo Gold Cup (August 21-24, 2025)

If you’re more into caviar than granola bars, this is the event for you. As well as matches with world-class athletes, spectators can expect champagne and high-society flair.

The family holiday

Gstaad has plenty to offer visitors of all ages, from gentler hikes that suit all ages to fun dining experiences (what kid doesn’t want to eat inside a super-sized fondue pot?).

Where to stay: Abländschen

Make the idyllic mountain hamlet of Abländschen your base. It has scenic trails and great restaurants, plus the little ones can even meet some local pigs with a stable visit at a local farm

What to do: Gstaad Züglete (first Saturday in September)

Every year, local farmers bring their cattle down from the mountains to spend the winter in gentler climes. There’s a family-friendly celebration to mark the occasion, with a colourful procession, folk music and plenty of hearty Swiss cuisine.

The blissed-out break

The restorative Alpine air and slower pace of life make Gstaad perfect for those looking to de-stress and reconnect.

Where to stay: Miiro The Mansard Hotel

This stylish hotel combines Alpine design with international polish and boasts a stylish wellness area with saunas, hydrotherapy wading pools and treatment rooms offering a range of massages, treatments based on Chinese medicine and beauty treatments. The hotel is also famed for its restaurant, and it even has the region’s only rooftop terrace.

What to do: Gstaad Menuhin Festival (July 18 - September 6, 2025)

Like a little culture with your mountain retreat? Take in a concert at this iconic classical music festival set in rural churches and stunning open-air venues.

The Gstaad Card

The Gstaad Card offers fantastic discounts to visitors spending at least one night in the region. Perks include free public transport (including unlimited use of selected trains and buses throughout the Saanenland and Simmental regions), up to 20 percent off rides to Glacier 3000 and discounts on swimming pools, mini golf, high ropes and other family favourites. You’ll also get savings on cultural experiences like museums, guided village tours and local events, and exclusive access to exceptional local experiences, such as guided nature hikes.
