Episode one
On the basis of his recent rant in The Observer about the BBC’s factual output, we have a feeling that Brian Sewell won’t approve of this new documentary series. Not only is Dr Michael Scott prone to walking towards the camera while gesticulating, but he also uses the phrase ‘epic fail’ at one point.

However, we’d imagine that most other people will find this to be a moderately informative and humanising exploration of Ancient Greek life, in all of its pathologically competitive, infanticidal, paedophilic glory. Scott gets in among the relics, tasting the disgusting Spartan soup, holding the infant bones and struggling with the martial arts moves. What he lacks in austere gravitas, he sure makes up for in enthusiam.
