Manhattan Beach 27th Annual Pier Lighting: Those living in the beach cities won't want to miss this one, when the iconic pier and the city's Christmas tree will light up to celebrate the holiday season. Though there's no word yet on whether the night will end with a grand fireworks finale, it has in past years. Manhattan Beach Pier. 6-9pm Wednesday, Nov 16.

The Americana at Brand: This year's theme is celebrating Christmas music from around the world. In addition to the tree lighting, Santa will make an appearance as well as the season's first snowfall and a grand fireworks finale. 889 Americana Way, Glendale. 7-9pm Thursday, Nov 17.

Beverly Hills Holiday Lighting Ceremony: The City of Beverly Hills and the Rodeo Drive Committee throw this shindig featuring live musical performances by Broadway star Megan Hilty and others, food, beverages and, of course, the lighting of Rodeo Drive. Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills. 5-8pm Sunday, Nov 20.

Big Bear City Fire Department's Christmas Tree Lighting: The department will flip the switch on the Christmas tree lighting at 5:30pm on Nov 25, but the occasion also marks Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving on to the Village on their sleigh (5pm). Can't make it so close to Thanksgiving? Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Xmas Tree Lot every weekend from 10am-4pm until Christmas Eve. Pine Knot Boulevard and Village Drive, Big Bear. 5-6pm Friday, Nov 25.
