Grab free morning coffee from Intelligentsia while they renovate

The Sunset Junction location of the Chicago-based Intelligentsia coffee shop chain is taking a brief break to renovate after serving the neighborhood for 10 years. While that means their arched red entryway will be boarded-up for a couple of weeks, coffee fiends need not fret. They will be handing out free hot and iced coffees each morning in the parking lot behind the building from a temporary kiosk usually used for the valet.

Intelligentsia staff will open up the window at 8am and keep pouring until 1pm—or, at least, as long as the coffee lasts, which, as The Eastsider reports, may be pretty early. People love free coffee, as it turns out.

Should you make your way over only to find that the day’s free coffee supply has already run dry, you should probably still be able to survive. Your caffeine addiction can be satisfied at any number of the neighborhood’s other great coffee shops located within a few blocks of Intelligentsia’s Sunset Boulevard locale, including Alfred, Woodcat Coffee Bar, Dinosaur Coffee, Blue Bottle, Stories, and many others stretching out in both directions. Or, if you simply must have Intelligentsia, the group’s Pasadena and Venice locations will remain open to meet your needs.

The reopening date for the café has yet to be announced, but when the renovations are complete, there may be a formal reopening party. And, we have to assume, such a party would involve… more free coffee.
