Make a cool poster and you could win VIP tickets to FYF and more

Summon up a mental image of a rock 'n’ roll club and we bet part of that image involves walls pasted with layers upon layers of colorful concert posters. Way back in ancient times, before there were websites to list all the cool things going on in town, those cut-and-paste posters were how you would learn a band was coming to town. Even now, an eye-catching flyer can give you a peek at an artist’s aesthetics and might tip you off to interesting music.

And speaking of classic rocker aesthetics, particularly in Southern California, few brands are more associated with the music scene than Vans, right? In recent years, the brand has added on to their long-running Vans Warped Tour with their buzzy House of Vans concerts you’ve probably been hearing about from New York and SXSW.

Those House of Vans events are the result of a collaboration with the folks behind our own FYF here in LA—and now they’re bringing a little bit of that back home for next month’s festival in the form of the House of Vans Workshop tent.

To celebrate, the call has gone out to ask creative and crafty music lovers to make their own poster for the festival, with the best entries winning cool prizes and the honor of your entry being hung up on display at the Workshop for all to see. The grand prize is four pairs of Vans shoes, $100 in Vans apparel, $500 to spend at Fingerprints in Long Beach, $100 in FYF merch and a pair of VIP festival passes. That’s almost $1,400 in treasures, by our count.

The rules for getting in on the contest are pretty simple. Make a 8.5- by 11-inch poster with “FYF Fest 2016” written on it somewhere and featuring some type of reference to the Vans brand. Mail it in by Aug 8 and that’s it. How you go about designing or making the poster is totally up to you.

We can’t wait to stop by the tent and see who won!
