Summer, museums and free concerts are three of our favorite things, so when they all combine, you know we always turn out. The newest addition to our seasonal social schedule: MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary is hosting a series of summer concerts featuring Zola Jesus, Peaking Lights, Teebs, Tacocat, Surf Curse and more.

On June 15, June 29 and July 20, the Little Tokyo branch of MOCA will be opening up their space for music lovers, starting at 6:30pm each evening. These concerts are the first collaboration between MOCA and music curators Spaceland, who are also involved with the music events at the Getty, Natural History Museum and Santa Monica Pier.

The first event features Brainfeeder and Dublab favorite Teebs, along with Milo, Josef Leimberg and (DJ) NOBODY. Come back later in June for the summery, lo-fi sounds of Surf Curse, feminist garage pop from Tacocat and some local rock from Starcrawler. For the final concert, the arty Zola Jesus headlines a lineup filled out with the married-couple psych-pop duo Peaking Lights, Smerz, and a DJ set by Michael Stock, known around town for his Part Time Punks residency and radio show.

Before or after the music, check out the Geffen's current exhibitions, including Carl Andre: Sculpture as Place, 1958-2010, a deep retrospective of the artist’s work that redefined contemporary sculpture, the first show of his work anywhere in North America since 1980.

The summer concert series takes place at 6:30pm on June 15, June 29 and July 30 at the Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art. All events are free to attend, with advance online RSVP encouraged.
