This new skyscraper is set to be one of the tallest in L.A. history

South Park is about to get a lot taller with the construction of a towering new skyscraper. The developers behind Ten Thousand and other recent high-rises have just filed plans with the city for what they intend to build on a plot located at 1045 South Olive Street.

Urbanize L.A. dug into the case before the Department of City Planning to find a proposal for a 714-foot-tall building with a 38,000-square-foot footprint, set to contain 800 condo apartments in addition to mixed use retail and amenity space. If everything goes as planned, it would become one of the tallest buildings in Los Angeles, coming in taller than the City National Tower and just about on par with the Figueroa at Wilshire building. It would be the first new skyscraper on that scale to be built in the city since 1989.

The building is in a prime spot of Downtown, along the upcoming street car corridor and across the street from another massive new development already in the works that will feature apartments and urban townhouse residences, and another under-construction project that will include a new hotel.

If Miami-based developer Crescent Heights’ other local buildings are any indication, the apartments and amenities are likely to be some of the most luxurious Downtown has seen so far. Their Ten Thousand apartments offer on-site Botox and chauffeured Bentleys to drive residents around.

Regardless of the interior details, we have to hope the Olive Street tower gets capped off with an awe-inspiring rooftop bar to take advantage of all that height.
