Friday

Start your weekend at the Grammy Museum to scope out the opening day of Respect!: Otis Redding and the Revolution of Soul. The exhibition examines the legendary King of Soul's short but acclaimed career through stage outfits, rare photographs, performance footage and the 1968 Grammy for "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay."

Make your way over to Hollywood afterward for Funny Uh-Oh. Maybe cartoons are best enjoyed on a printed page, but that won't stop The New Yorker cartoonists Emily Flake and Matt Diffee as well as a bunch of others from showing off their drawings on stage at the NerdMelt Showroom.

Saturday

Commemorate Minnie Mouse's iconic polka-dot pattern fashion sense on Saturday at Minnie Rocks the Dots. The Paper Agency hosts this free fashion-inspired exhibition with everything from a portrait of Twiggy in mouse ears to custom Minnie dresses, including a new piece from fashion designer Christian Siriano.

While you're Downtown, swing by the Reef for Photo L.A. This annual photography exhibition assembles art dealers and galleries from across the globe to exhibit new and vintage works, as well as video and multimedia installations.

If you're up for shuffling around another art fair, head to Bonhams Los Angeles in Hollywood for the Los Angeles Fine Print Fair. Peruse fine art from 18 international dealers highlighting five centuries of printmaking, from traditional Japanese woodcuts to impressionist masters.

Wash down the afternoon at the the Whaling Club Tiki Pop Up. Enjoy tiki-themed libations paired with freshly shucked oysters and other small bites at a secret location in Culver City; Friday's event is already sold out, so make sure to snag your tickets to Saturday night.

Sunday

Make your way to the Hammer Museum for the closing day of The Idea of North: The Paintings of Lawren Harris. The first major US exhibition of works from the Canadian artist initially made headlines for its curator, Steve Martin, but it's a beautiful show in its own right with over 30 dreamy landscape paintings. Today also marks the closing of UH-OH: Frances Stark 1991-2015, a mid-career survey of the local mixed-media artist.

Close out your weekend with some New Year's resolution-friendly festivities. Start your run at sunset and continue underneath the stars—at least, the few you can see from the Valley—at the LA River Night Run. This 5K takes you through fields along the LA River and includes a vegan taco bar, a fire pit with s'mores and free beer from Golden Road Brewing.
