A dark, sexy version of ‘Oklahoma!’ is coming to L.A. this year

Unsettling, dark and eerie aren’t words you’d expect to see attached to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! But a chili-and-cornbread–serving, thrillingly modern adaptation of the classic musical was all the rage in New York recently, and now it’ll be coming to L.A.

Oklahoma! will run this year from November 3 to 22 at the Dolby Theatre as part of the Pantages Theatre’s 2020–2021 season. Once again, shows will be split between the two nearby Hollywood theaters.

With Hamilton set to run for most of this year, the Pantages lineup doesn’t kick off until next summer, with Disney’s The Lion King (June 25–Sept 5, 2021) and Moulin Rouge! The Musical (Oct 13, 2021–Jan 2, 2022)

The Dolby, meanwhile, will see The Cher Show (Mar 23–Apr 11, 2021), Tootsie (Apr 13–May 2, 2021), Aida (May 13–June 5, 2021) and Pretty Woman: The Musical (June 8–27, 2021).

There’s just one catch: You can’t buy individual tickets to any of these shows quite yet. Season ticket holders can renew their plans now to secure tickets, and new subscribers can plunk down for a multi-show plan as well. Seven-show season packages start at $299 for the cheap seats (which works out to about $43 a show) and fetch as much as $1,199 for premium spots. If you’re not willing to commit, then hold tight until the theater announces more info about single tickets.
