Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ land is getting a bar called Oga’s Cantina

A long time ago—OK, in 2015—in a galaxy we’re currently inhabiting, Disney announced news that echoed through the hearts of every smuggler, sith lord, droid, bounty hunter and plain-old cinephile: Disneyland would expand its first park to develop 14 acres for a Star Wars-themed land. We already know that when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens next summer we can expect an immersive experience set on the planet Batuu, which will even include a ride that lets us helm the Millennium Falcon. But when it came to the land’s food and drink news, that front was about as barren as Jakku.

That all changes today. Thirsty rebel scum, rejoice: There’ll be a cantina complete with droids, music and drink, manned by an alien proprietor, Oga Garra, who “adheres to a strict code of conduct that tries to keep its unruly patrons in check.” Oga’s Cantina, which will be situated in a village called Black Spire Outpost—Batuu’s largest settlement, keep up—promises concoctions made with exotic ingredients and “otherworldly” methods, that will come served in unique vessels.

The land’s first-announced beverage concept is set to be family-friendly, but before you scream “IT’S A TRAP,” the release also guarantees “libations for adults”—which is great news, because you already know that the Star Wars-inspired realm is going to be more packed than the contents of a Death Star garbage compactor, and we’re going to need some bubbling alien booze to help us cope with the crowds.

“Visitors come to this notorious local watering hole to unwind, conduct shady business, and maybe even encounter a friend…or a foe,” the Disney Parks Blog posted today, adding, “Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy. And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up.”

And because it wouldn’t be a Star Wars cantina without a little music, the droid RX-24—former pilot of Tomorrowland’s beloved Star Tours ride—is assuming a new role, this time as the Oga’s Cantina house DJ (spot him in the upper left corner of the concept image above). On that note, play us out, Cantina Band:
