There’s no shortage of reasons to spend a Sunday afternoon at ROW DTLA in general or Smorgasburg L.A. in particular, but for the next two months, brain freeze might be the biggest draw of all.

Smorgasburg is bringing back Ice Cream Alley for its 10th summer, transforming part of the weekly food market into a celebration of the city’s independent ice cream makers. Running every Sunday from July 5 through September 6, the annual pop-up gathers some of L.A.’s buzziest and most beloved frozen dessert vendors in one place, making it dangerously easy to justify dessert before lunch.

This year's lineup spans every frozen craving imaginable. There will be inventive scoops from SadGirl Creamery and Moom Maam, gelato from Innamorata Gelato and Boutcha Gelatea, vegan treats from Bestie’s Vegan Paradise, churro creations from Churros El Bochito and sweets from Bernie’s and Swrlies. Sweet Lady Jane will also be on hand with a first look at its new gelato lineup, giving longtime devotees another reason to stop by.

If one ice cream vendor isn’t enough, save the date for Sunday, July 19, when Smorgasburg expands the celebration with the Great Ice Cream Fair. The one-day event promises exclusive frozen treats, DJs, activities and other surprises, turning the market into a giant excuse to skip the produce aisle and head straight for dessert.

Initially a National Ice Cream Day event, Ice Cream Alley proved so popular that it became a two-month-long annual pop-up that takes Angelenos through the height of summer and straight into Labor Day Weekend. Over the past decade, Ice Cream Alley has become a distinctly Los Angeles summer tradition: equal parts food crawl, neighborhood hang and showcase for the city’s endlessly creative dessert scene. Whether you’re loyal to classic scoops, soft serve, gelato or something that defies categorization altogether, odds are you’ll find your next favorite frozen treat here—just don't expect to leave with clean hands. That’s part of the experience.

Smorgasburg L.A. is every Sunday at ROW DTLA from 10am to 4pm. Parking is free for the first two hours.
