Last weekend, among a sea of cheesy contenders, Hudson Common took the top honors at the fifth-annual Big Cheesy smackdown, hosted by Time Out New York and Openhouse Gallery. In between enjoying Goose Island brews, guests tasted their way through six grilled-cheese creations, including a mac-and-cheese–stuffed number from Twist and Smash'd and the Taylor Swift-inspired "Taylor Swiss" (Gruyere and Danish fontina, with truffled duck-liver mousse, walnut pesto and baked granny apples on garlic-buttered challah) from FAME by Alex Mitow.
But it was the the Hudson Hotel lobby bar's sandwich that won over the crowd. The sammie came crammed with a whopping seven cheeses (2 Sisters gouda, ricotta, smoked ricotta, Tickler cheddar, white cheddar cheese curds, Cabot cheddar and Prairie View cheddar) and drizzled with maple, all on French-toast bread.
