Staten Island’s days as New York’s “forgotten borough” are long over! With new parks, buzzy real estate developments and an epic, 60-story tall Ferris wheel on the horizon, a lot of exciting things are happening just a short ferry ride from downtown Manhattan. In this week’s issue, we’re running down all the awesome things to do on the island right now—from some of the city’s best burgers and pizza to great bars and breweries to an entire restored historic village. SNL star, and Staten Island native Colin Jost also stops by to give a full-hearted defense of his native borough.

Elsewhere, we’ve got a look a this year’s CMJ Music Festival. With hundreds of bands hitting up NYC next week, find out the top acts that you definitely shouldn’t miss. You can also read up on this weekend’s New York Comic Con, all the spooky events you should hit up this October and the new album from Atlanta trio Algiers before they play Rough Trade this Sunday.
