The Museum of Broken Relationships is coming to NYC

You heard it from the late Carrie Fisher: “Take your broken heart, make it into art.” This is exactly what two Croatian creators and Olinka Vištica (a film producer) and Dražen Grubišić (a sculptor) decided to do back in 2006 when the twosome debuted The Museum of Broken Relationships in Croatia.

After ending their four-year relationship in 2003, the exes joked about turning their home into a museum, which would display their leftover possessions from their time as a couple. From that bizarre conversation, The Museum of Broken Relationships was spawned, and since heartbreak is universal, the roving exhibition opened in L.A. last year.

Next month, the city is getting its very own tug-at-your-heartstring pop-up installation dubbed Bravo and The Museum of Broken Relationships Present: The EX-hibition, which will features donated objects and stories ranging from tear-jerker to pee-your-pants hilarious thanks to a few famous and anonymous New Yorkers.

At the two-day, outdoor EX-hibition, you can peep at a wide-range of sentimental works such as a piece of concrete inscribed with a couple’s initials as well as semi-spiteful objects such as a toaster, which was stolen by a woman who wanted to ensure that her ex would never make perfect toast again.

Head to Flatiron Plaza (23rd St between Fifth Avenue and Broadway) on Sunday, July 16 from 1 to 8pm or Monday, July 17 from 11am to 7pm to check it out. And make sure to view Bravo's a new original docu-series called A Night With My Ex on Tuesday, July 18 at 10pm. Afterward, we suggest finding the nearest ice cream parlor to drown all of your sorrows in sugar.
