The traffic in New York is an absolute nightmare right now

Bah, humbug. Because of some stupid holiday called Christmas, New York is turning into one massive traffic jam. It’s been reported that congestion is up four percent from last year, making it higher than it’s been in a decade. Fun.

So what exactly is going on? Wednesday was our first taste of the vortex of gridlock doom, with the Rockefeller Center tree lighting, rainy weather and Donald Trump being in town. And all that’s just going to get worse over the next month.

NYC is expecting 59.7 million visitors by the end of 2016, and most of them will want to take selfies in front of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The congestion of Fifth Avenue because of Trump Tower also isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

So even if the Second Avenue subway does get finished on time, it won’t help much. Merry Christmas!
