The 24th annual cans-for-a-cause competition is up and running at Brookfield Place in Battery Park City, bringing its usual can-do spirit to fanciful Pop-Art installations created out of food cans by a host of architecture and design teams. There’s nearly 20 projects in all, including one featuring internet meme Pizza Rat and another depicting the Guggenheim Museum. Some 120,000 cans of nonperishable food items are being used, all of which will be donated to City Harvest once the contest closes November 16. Check out these photos of some of this year’s entries below. You won’t need an opener to get in: Admission is free, though please help feed the hungry by bringing the suggested donation of one canned good per person.
