Watch 12 of your favorite books get the Hamilton treatment

It's about to get English lit. You know how Lin-Manuel Miranda revitalized the story of a certain Mr. Secretary of Treasury? Well, Hamilton star and Tony winner Daveed Diggs and his right-hand man Rafael Casal are doing the same thing for your favorite books (while you wait for the rest of the Hamilton Mixtape). In a new video, the #BARS Medley Vol. 2, the duo turn the literary canon into an ingenuitive rap medley. Oh, and they do it all in one take.

It's the result of Diggs and Casal's #BARS workshop in NYC, a six-week beats boot camp for more than 30 writers, musicians and actors. Their first session resulted in a rap rendition of movies and TV shows, and for the second session at the Public Theater, the students turned 12 classic novels into songs—and invited the Hamilton cast to join the show. No pressure.

Javier Muñoz, the current Alexander Hamilton on Broadway, shows up to announce a rap reworking of The Catcher in the Rye. Anthony Ramos, one of Diggs' fellow sexiest founding fathers, introduces a performance of Frankenstein that kills it (and then brings it back to life). Jasmine Cephas Jones presents a rendition of Pride and Prejudice that turns Jane Austen's novel into a literal rap battle in a boxing ring.

Watch them blow up the English canon (and guns and ships) here:
