If you’ve ever been stuck in traffic for longer than three hours, we have an alternative you will like much better. A new jet prototype named Boom has been announced, and if it takes off (pun intended) it will get you from New York to London in three hours and 15 minutes.
The new plane will fly at the speed of sound (like the Concorde used to), which is 2.6 times faster than any other plane. It’ll hold about 50 passengers, and tickets will be $5,000, which is actually a bargain when you think about how much less time you’ll spend wedged into a tiny seat next to a screaming baby.
Its tentative launch date is in 2023, and it’s not the only one: There’s a high-speed race between several companies to create a super plane, including the Flash Falcon and the Antipode. In the meantime, we’ll just have to be satisfied with helicopter tours here in the city.
