You know your Instagram account is a reservoir of pure genius. And sure, you can share you brilliance with practically the entire world. But don’t you think your photos deserve something, well, bigger? Like one of those giant outdoor screens that seem to have escaped Times Square to take over Midtown? The website Untapped Cities seems to think you do.
They are sponsoring a competition to choose 50 Instagram pics to display at the Big Screen Plaza behind the Eventi hotel—a 30-foot-high, HD behemoth on 29th Street and 6th Avenue. The contest calls for “photos that best capture the essence of New York,” which could mean just about anything, including garbage and cockroaches, though the preferred categories appear to be “architecture, people, street scenes, arts, public places, abandoned spaces, cool restaurants.” Photos will be accepted between now and April 5, and Untapped Cities will feature a weekly selection of submissions on their site and Pinterest board leading up to the big event. Final winners will enjoy their 15 minutes of fame from April 20th to April 24th between noon-1pm each day. So now is the time to liberate your photos from the confines of your phone, and let them live large. Because if they make it here, they can make it anywhere.
