How do you know that pride in NYC is going to be the biggest celebration yet? Well, for one thing, it has its very own opening ceremony.
For its first time hosting World Pride, New York will be kicking off the June festivities with a massive benefit concert at Barclays Center on Wednesday, June 26. Talent announced for the big event (so far) includes Cyndi Lauper, Chaka Khan, Whoopi Goldberg, Ciara and Billy Porter.
Proceeds from the evening will go to the Ali Forney Center, an organization that helps homeless LGBT youth, Immigration Equality, an LGBTQ immigrant rights organization and SAGE, an non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of older LGBT adults.
All three organizations are leading organizations in the LGBT movement and all are based in New York City. Tickets for the event are currently on-sale and more performers are set to be announced in the weeks ahead.
