Google declares Joe's Pizza, Scarr's Pizza and Uncle Mike's Hometown Pizza the undisputed local favorite pizza joints

Even Google now has a say in the city's pizza battles.

Fierce debates about which pizza in New York should be crowned the absolute best have defined the city for decades. Now, Google is joining in on the conversation with some hard data. The search engine looked at what pizza places folks searched for the most on Google Maps in 2020, eventually determining the most popular joint in each state.

We won't waste too much of your time and will get right to it: although the most searched-for chain in New York was Domino's Pizza, undisputed local favorites (at least according to the data) are Joe's Pizza and Scarr's Pizza in Manhattan, alongside Uncle Mike’s Hometown Pizza in Camillus. Thoughts on those selections?

The survey, which encompassed the country as a whole, also revealed that most pizza is ordered in October, that the most popular day to order the treat is Saturday (followed by Friday) and that New York and California are the only two states where "vegan pizza" is among the top pizza-related searches. We're not entirely sure how we feel about that last bit of information.

The data release follows a week filled with pizza-related news. In fact, just a few days ago, Rep. Patricia Dillon and Sen. Gary Winfield ruffled some feathers by proposing a bill that would make pizza Connecticut's official state food.

The New Jersey Governor's Twitter account negatively responded to the news, with Governor Phil Murphy's social media manager specifically telling the New York Post that "New Jersey is the pizza capital of the world. Period. It simply doesn't make sense for a state that does not produce the world's best pizza to make pizza their official state food." The two states then went at it on Twitter... until New York got involved.

"As a former [pizza] cook and someone who has visited many pizza joints across New York State - I can confidently declare that New York IS the pizza capital of the world," tweeted New York Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. Needless to say, we wholeheartedly agree with that last sentiment.
