Earlier this morning, New Yorkers woke up from a long weekend to a bit over 2 inches of snow enveloping the city.

A history-making 701-day snowless streak is officially over—hurrah!

In case you need a bit of guidance, here is how to make the best of a snow day in NYC. You might also want to plan an outing to the best fireplace bars in NYC, because there is nothing quite as cozy as sipping on a martini while admiring the snow outside.

As for what's to come, here is our very own weather report, dissecting how much precipitation we actually got and what to expect in the coming days.

How much snow fell?

The New York Times reports that, as of 7am this morning, a total of 1.4 inches of snow had already fallen in Central Park. More specifically, 0.4 inches descended on our town last night before midnight, with an additional inch making its way to us by early morning.

According to the weather service, we can expect another inch of snow to fall by the end of today. Some areas might even have to deal with three inches of additional powder.

When will the snow stop in NYC?

As mentioned above, you can expect a bit more snow to make its way down by tonight.

CBS News predicts that the precipitation will "taper off later in the afternoon." That being said, it's supposed to be freezing all through tomorrow—so bundle up if you're planning to step outside.

Are schools closed due to the weather?

Shockingly, given the pretty substantial snowfall, schools are not closed today. New York parents are, indeed, very grateful.

What’s the forecast for the rest of the week?

Those of you itching for a bit more snow, don't get excited: there is no precipitation in the forecast tomorrow, but it's going to be incredibly cold (highs in the 20s!), so keep that in mind if you're commuting.

Thursday will also be cold but, to our delight, it might start snowing again. The same goes for Friday, although temperatures will reach highs in the 30s.

It's a very winter-like day out there today, enjoy it!
