The only Halloween costume contest that truly matters is the one that involves dressed up canines.

That’s why we were heartbroken when news broke that the annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade was canceled due to a hefty insurance and liability policy administered by the Park’s Department. Nonetheless, we carried on thanks to a few other doggy Halloween costume contests and continued to enjoy the most spooktacular festivities in the city.

But now, there is even more reason to rejoice as the organizers say the most infamous pooch procession is still on, but at a different location. The 28th parade is going down at East River Park Amphitheater in the Lower East Side’s Corlears Hook Park.

Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 28 from noon to 3pm! ESPN’s Katie Nolan will host, and the event is being funded by the local civic group Good Old Lower East Side. Special kudos goes to ESPN—the network plans to donate 10,000 to the City Parks Foundation to support the Tompkins Square dog run.
