You can’t beat summer in NYC, as it’s the season when there’s an influx of free things to do outside. Aside from taking a day trip to our city’s free NYC beaches or soaking up the sun in Central Park, most neighborhoods come up with some awesome outdoor programming and street fairs.

Park Slope, for instance, has several fun (and free!) events planned for Fifth Avenue starting next month. Summer Strolls is returning and will host four block parties that include a Doggy Fashion Parade and Roller Skate Party, Shakespeare in the Street, salsa dancing and an Artichoke Pizza eating contest. So, yeah, you’re going to want to attend all four.

In addition to those highlights, each alfresco bash includes other kick-ass activities such as a vintage car show, giant chess, climbing walls, a bouncy house and mini golf. The series kicks off on Saturday, July 21 with a procession of stylishly-clad pooches hosted by Freddy’s Bar (627 Fifth Avenue, starts at 5pm). Once the pups prance away, the Roller Skate Dance Party begins next door in front of South Pub (629 Fifth Avenue, starting at 6:30pm). If only the dogs were parading in roller skates—that would be something, wouldn’t it?

For more information on upcoming events, head to the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID website.
