New York has never exactly struggled to find creative uses for pizza. We’ve folded it, topped it with all sorts of delicious nonsense and argued endlessly about which slice deserves citywide supremacy. But Prince Street Pizza is trying something it has never done before: dessert.

Throughout August, the pizzeria is serving its first-ever dessert pizza nationwide and naturally, it’s taking inspiration from the Big Apple itself. The Black Currant Big Apple Pie Pizza is basically what happens when a classic apple pie decides it would rather be a slice.

Available through August 31, the limited-edition pie combines apple-pie flavors with a black currant drizzle and McCormick Black Currant Finishing Sugar, adding a tart, berry-forward counterpoint. It’s a collaboration between Prince Street Pizza and spice giant McCormick & Company, with social media creator Hannah Stocking along for the ride.

If black currant feels like an unexpectedly specific berry to build an entire pizza around, there’s a reason for that. McCormick named black currant its 2026 Flavor of the Year and the company has been rolling out collaborations intended to introduce more Americans to the fruit. The deep-purple berry has long been more familiar in Europe than in the U.S., but McCormick is betting that its sweet-tart flavor is ready for a stateside breakout.

The Black Currant Big Apple Pie Pizza is available at all Prince Street Pizza locations nationwide through the end of the month, meaning New Yorkers can try it right here in the city where both the pizza and its apple inspiration make the most sense.

Is putting apple pie on pizza a little ridiculous? Sure. But this is a city that gave the world the Cronut, rainbow bagels and a thousand other foods engineered to make people stop scrolling. At least this one knows exactly where it came from.
