New Yorkers don’t agree on much, but one thing is certain: When it comes to pizza, the state still reigns supreme. This National Pizza Month, DoorDash crunched thousands of customer reviews to identify the 50 most popular pizzerias in the U.S.—and 10 of them hail from the Empire State. From Manhattan to Brooklyn to Buffalo, the results prove that New York’s slice game is as strong as ever.

Naturally, Joe’s Pizza made the cut. The West Village icon has been perfecting the art of the foldable slice since 1975, serving that ideal combination of thin, chewy crust, tangy sauce and blistered cheese that defines the genre. The pies are always fresh from the oven—sometimes too fresh, if you’re not careful—and best eaten standing on the sidewalk with a paper plate. Just a quick stroll away in Nolita, Rubirosa continues to draw crowds with its impossibly thin crusts and vodka-sauce masterpiece, a pie so beloved it’s practically canon in New York’s pizza lore.
Brooklyn, of course, shows up in style. F&F Pizzeria, tucked between Frankies 457 Spuntino and Franks Wine Bar in Carroll Gardens, is a minimalist slice shop in a converted garage. Its crisp, charred crust and short list of toppings—like the brown butter and sage sausage—turn pizza into a kind of quiet art form. Over in Park Slope, Brooklyn DOP delivers the same reverence for dough, offering a margherita that’s all airy crust, bright sauce and balance. It’s as close to Naples as you’ll get without a boarding pass.
Beyond the city, upstate and Long Island show they’re no slouches either. The Pizzeria in Islip, Tino’s in Oneonta and Pizza Wizard in Rochester all earned nods from DoorDash diners, proving that excellence doesn’t stop at the five boroughs. But it’s the New York City classics that define the state’s pizza identity—the spots where lines snake down the block and every bite feels like a love letter to simplicity.
“Pizza brings people together,” said Ruth Isenstadt, head of U.S. restaurants at DoorDash. “Every region and chef puts their own spin on a classic, and that creativity is what makes it so special.”
Creativity may abound, but in New York, the formula hasn’t changed: dough, sauce, cheese and an almost religious belief that your neighborhood slice joint is the best in the world.
