The West Village has a new day-to-night hangout that understands exactly how New Yorkers like to move through a day.
Aperitivo by Carta, the latest concept from the women-led team behind Bedford Street’s Carta Wine Bar, is now open at 101 West 10th Street, bringing coffee, lunch, wine and a proper raw bar under one quietly polished roof.
By morning, Aperitivo operates as a café, serving espresso drinks and teas, along with pastries from Paloma Bakery. There are patisserie favorites like pain au chocolat and a decadent pistachio pain suisse, but also breakfast options that skew nourishing without being joyless, like steel-cut oats with seasonal fruit and croissants topped with smoked salmon, avocado and arugula.
Midday tweaks the mood slightly, turning Aperitivo into a casual lunch stop with salads, soups and sandwiches. There’s a classic half-soup, half-sandwich option for indecisive types, alongside plates like a Greek salad with feta and olives, a farro bowl with burrata and pesto and a short rib French dip that’s a bit more indulgent than your average lunch break.
Then, after 5pm, the lights dim and the café transforms into a cozy, 24-seat wine bar. The evening menu is Mediterranean and seafood-forward, with a raw bar featuring oysters from both coasts, razor clams with yuzu and avocado, scallop aguachile and tuna carpaccio. Heartier mains, like lobster mac and cheese, braised short rib, a half chicken and whole roasted branzino, make it easy to turn a casual glass of wine into a full dinner.
The wine list, overseen by partner and wine director Rebecca Powelson, prioritizes organic, biodynamic and family-owned producers from around the world, with bottles from Greece, France, Italy, Spain and beyond. There are also spritzes, vermouths, craft beers and thoughtful zero-proof options, making Aperitivo plenty welcoming for a low-key weeknight.
Designed by Anatomy Studio, the space is warm and understated—featuring marble, terrazzo, natural light and a comfortable mix of seating. It’s a place built for ritual, whether that ritual starts with a morning latte or ends with oysters and a glass of wine.
