Full disclosure: among the myriad of delicious ice cream shops all around New York, I'm particularly fond of Van Leeuwen, the NYC-born chain that started off as a local food truck back in 2008 and now operates over 100 stores across the U.S.

That’s all to say: anything Van Leeuwen does gets me excited, especially when it involves new flavors (though I’ll always be loyal to the honeycomb, pistachio and Earl Grey tea). Case in point: the debut of the brand’s new Flavor Lab in Greenpoint, a creative hub for flavor development and innovation helmed by co-founder Ben Van Leeuwen and Ryoko Yoshida of Marlow & Sons fame.

“Part innovation lab and part storefront, guests can expect a rotating lineup of exclusive small-batch flavors created on-site at the Flavor Lab, alongside Van Leeuwen fan favorites,” reads the official press release. Expect plenty of collaborations with chefs and brands, too.

To celebrate the opening at 136 Franklin Street in Brooklyn, the Flavor Lab team will offer $1 scoops from 11am to 1pm tomorrow, October 25. Vintage fan-favorite flavors will return for the occasion, including espresso (originally created with Sabrina Carpenter, obviously), Kraft mac & cheese, ginger pineapple, Ceylon cinnamon and more. The first 100 guests will snag Van Leeuwen-branded totes and hats, plus there’ll be branded cookbooks and surprise $100 gift card giveaways throughout the day.
