Museum-hopping in New York isn't exactly known for being a budget-friendly hobby. But if you've got a Bank of America, Merrill or Bank of America Private Bank card tucked into your wallet, this weekend comes with a pretty great perk.

This Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, eligible cardholders can get free general admission to nine museums and cultural institutions across the city as part of Bank of America's ongoing Museums on Us program. The offer returns on the first full weekend of every month, giving cardholders a chance to visit some of the city's biggest attractions without paying the usual admission price.

The participating New York-area institutions this weekend are:

  • The Museum of Modern Art
  • The New York Botanical Garden
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • The Met Cloisters
  • The Intrepid Museum
  • Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum
  • The Jewish Museum (Sunday only)
  • Staten Island Children's Museum
  • Hudson River Museum in Yonkers

If you're trying to narrow down your options, MoMA is an especially good pick right now. This weekend is one of your final chances to take advantage of free admission before the museum's major "Marcel Duchamp" retrospective closes on August 22. The exhibition brings together nearly 300 works by the groundbreaking artist, including paintings, sculptures, glass pieces and miniature reproductions spanning his influential career.

To take advantage of the offer, show your eligible Bank of America, Merrill or Bank of America Private Bank credit or debit card, along with a valid photo ID, at the participating museum. One important catch: the free admission is for cardholders only, so friends, family members and other guests will still need to purchase their own tickets.

Whether you've been meaning to revisit the Met, explore the Botanical Garden in peak summer bloom or finally step aboard the Intrepid, this weekend is a good excuse to cross a museum (or two) off your list without spending a dime.
