If you’ve been tempted to bolt from New York for a winter reset or simply want to brag about scoring a train to Boston for about the price of a decent brunch, Amtrak is making it easy. The railroad’s "Winter Wanderlust" sale is live now through Thursday, November 13, offering up to 30% off fares on dozens of routes across the country, including some especially wallet-friendly options for New Yorkers.
The deal covers travel between December 2, 2025 and March 15, 2026, with blackout dates around the holidays: December 19–23, December 26–30, January 1–4, January 16 and 19, and February 13 and 16. Outside those windows, nearly everything is fair game. Both Coach and Acela Business Class are included, so you can go budget or business-bougie at will.
Closer to home, fares between New York and Boston drop as low as $59 each way on standard service or $88 on Acela if you want to shave time off the journey. New York–Philadelphia routes hit $36, while New York–Washington, D.C., comes in at $59, making a winter museum weekend surprisingly affordable.
Longer-haul deals are where things get interesting. Chicago–New York is listed at $63, a solid offer for anyone eyeing a deep-dish escape. Florida is also in play: Miami–Tampa rings up at $16 and New York–Savannah at $99, making a warm-weather getaway doable if you’re flexible and don’t mind a multi-segment itinerary.
Other standouts include Baltimore–New York for $56, Dallas–San Antonio for $18, Portland–Seattle for $28 and even Chicago–Los Angeles for $121, all available through November 13. Nearly every major route participates, from the Northeast Regional and Acela to the Coast Starlight, Crescent, Empire Builder and Lake Shore Limited.
Winter rail travel has its charms: wide reclining seats, big windows, no middle seats and, best of all, no traffic. If you want to lean into the season, grab a hot drink from the Café Car and watch the snowbanks flick by like a moving postcard.
To claim the sale fares, book through Amtrak’s website or the Amtrak app by Thursday, November 13.
