Every year, award-winning pastry chef Camari Mick celebrates Black History Month with a series of events held at The Musket Room and Raf’s. This year—in the midst of building out her coming Afro-Caribbean Brasserie, L’Atelier Ébène—Mick is gearing up to do it all over again.
On February 2nd, Mick is hosting the second annual Follow Your Roots dinnerm featuring a stellar lineup of Black chefs she's hand-selected to cook alongside her: Brittney “Stikxz” Williams (her L’Atelier Ébène partner and culinary director at Miss Lily's), Aretah Ettarh (James Beard Award nominee and chef de cuisine of Gramercy Tavern), and India Doris(Michelin Guide's 2025 Young Chef Award winner and co-owner of Markette). Michelle and Suzanne Rousseau of Two Sisters Jamaica, Ope Amosu of Houston's fast-casual West African restaurant ChòpnBlok and Geoff Davis behind Oakland soul food restaurant, Burdell, also join the list of participating all-star talents.
Culinary historian Thèrese Nelson selected a list of culturally significant ingredients for the chefs to prepare across the seven-course meal, ranging from plantain and callaloo to fonio—each highlighting their respective heritages. Come to the table ready to discover African ancestral foodways, one dish at a time, at this one-of-a-kind meal.
Tickets are $275 per person, inclusive of tax, gratuity and two cocktails. An optional wine pairing will be available for $85 per person. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit National Black Food & Justice Alliance, a nonprofit aimed at developing Black leadership, supporting Black communities and building institutions for Black food sovereignty and liberation.
