Time Out says

If you’re looking for a unique and hands-on creative experience, look no further than the Japanese floral arrangement classes at East Village Hats. Taught by Maor Zabar, the man who developed the thermoplastic technique, explains how he combines silk with plastic to create organic shapes like stems, leaves, and petals with ease. The workshop encourages students to let their imaginations run wild, allowing each participant to choose whichever shapes they want to create. Through careful manipulation, students will leave the two-day course with a stunning headpiece they’ll be proud to show off.

Beginner milliners may also want to look into the Sinasilk Sculpting Masterclass. Sinasilk is made of a combination of silk and sinamay, which is a woven fabric made of trees that are native to the Philippines. Sinasilk was invented out of a need to preserve the naturally occurring fabrics and make these precious resources last longer. This class allows students to create unique patterns on a flat surface before turning their one-of-a-kind design into a wearable 3D art piece. All materials are included in this course, so students just need to come with their creative juices flowing.

As a hat shop, East Village Hats also provides plenty of hat-making courses for interested students. There are workshops that teach you how to make fascinators, fedoras, and turbans. Students who have attended a workshop at East Village Hats have mostly favorable things to say about their experience. The instructors are quite knowledgeable about the material, providing practical instructions and actionable feedback to help students improve their skills. Many students report wanting to take additional classes and appreciate the wide variety of high-quality supplies to choose from.
