New York City is a tough place to find an apartment. People panic about not getting enough for their money, which is why we take a monthly look at what it’s possible to get in this town for about $1,000 a person. (And we promise, there won’t be a nightmare apartment listing.) No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment, but not everyone has the cash to pay for the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York. So take a look at these affordable apartments in NYC but do so quickly because they will be gone before you know it. This sun-soaked Brooklyn beauty comes with all sorts of perks: Large bedrooms with closets, stainless steel appliances, in-building laundry and an updated, beautiful bathroom. The only catch is that the apartment is still undergoing the final touches of construction. But, considering the unit boasts central air conditioning and a roof deck, you’ll consider the extra wait worth it come summer.

The dream apartment for Columbia or Barnard students—or other young adults who will still feel grown and independent even if they’re crammed into a tiny bedroom—this pad in the low 100s is the perfect place to crash. While the aforementioned sleeping quarters appear to be just large enough to fit a twin, the place has plenty of other redeeming qualities including plentiful windows, hardwood floors and a dishwasher. If you’ve been thinking about moving uptown, this newly renovated, gorgeous spot will certainly convince you that any added commute time is well worth it. The nearly floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, updated, stainless steel appliances in the kitchen and those massive closet spaces will make you feel like a monarch without having to take up residence in Queens or Kings County. The building also happens to have an elevator and on site laundry in case you needed any more incentive.

If you’re jaw didn’t drop when you saw that beautiful, historic fireplace and its brick backdrop than you simply cannot be pleased.
