New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. Everyone panics that they aren’t getting enough for their money, which is why we’re taking a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise there’ll be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these attractive, spacious places—but do it quickly, because these will be gone before you know it. Come back next week for more of our top picks from real-estate site Zumper’s inventory.

And if you’re still struggling, try our NYC apartments guide.

257 Water St #2E

Loft/convertible four-bedroom in the Financial District, $4,800/month ($1,200 per person)

Finally, an apartment that actually lives up to the completely unrealistic NYC residences we've been fed by television and movies: a massive loft that's easily converted to share with three of your best buds. Between the chef-level kitchen with dishwasher, a washer/dryer in the unit, two bathrooms and access to a roof deck…sorry we just spaced out for a sec gawking at those insane views. What were we talking about? Oh yeah. You want to live here.

Broadway #3E

Four-bedroom in Harlem, $4079/month ($1,020 per person)

Uptown life never looked sweeter than at this sleek renovated abode. Not only does it have two bathrooms, the listing claims "both bathrooms have a laundry"—we're not sure how this is physically possible, but damn if it isn't worth investigating. Think of the possibilities: Feel like washing a single sock? Why the hell not? Add to that hardwood floors, exposed brick, and a month of free rent, and we're ready to move in.

Suffolk St #3B

Three-bedroom on the Lower East Side, $3,700/month ($1,233 per person)

Who says everything downtown is outrageously expensive? This prime-location true three-bedroom is spitting distance from a ton of the city's best bars and restaurants, and actually cheap enough that you can still afford to enjoy them. Though with a stainless-steel kitchen with a dishwasher, you might even be inspired to forgo a night out in favor of whipping up a feast at home. (Or not. We're New Yorkers after all.)

68 Jefferson St #2B

Two-bedroom in Bushwick, $2,300/month ($1,150 per person)

Set up camp in the 'wick before it becomes as pricey and overcrowded as Williamsburg (our guess: you have about six months) at this sun-filled spot minutes from the J/M/Z and L trains. If the gleaming hardwood floors, granite countertops, built-in AC and on-site laundry weren't enough for you, there's a spacious balcony off the apartment and access to a roof deck. Hello, summer barbecues.

406 Central Park West #12C

Three-bedroom on the Upper West Side, $3,600/month ($1,200 per person)

First off, you should be sold based on the address alone—it's Central Park West, people. Which means you basically have the biggest, most gorgeous front yard ever. After that, the exposed brick, huge living room, open kitchen with a dishwasher, and not one but two full bathrooms are just icing on the cake (pretty sweet icing, though…not gonna lie).
