Sober happy hour need not look sombre – with the rising demand for booze-free drinks, companies all around are creating alcohol-free substitutes that look and taste (almost) the same – sans the hangover. Some of these alternatives are even made without the usual additives and sugar, resulting in healthier variants that would make a welcome addition to any home bar. Teetotaling has never been easier – or looked any cooler – with these trendy zero-proof options.

Lyre’s

Here’s an age-old conundrum: wanting a taste of that stiff drink, but not the alcoholic content it comes with. You can now have your non-alcoholic cocktail and savour it too with Lyre’s. Its range of non-alcoholic spirits mimics that of the original – from the looks right down to its taste (and aftertaste). Choose from over 13 different options ($59), including the Negroni, Gin, and Italian Spritz. Lazy to shake up your own drink? The brand has also recently introduced a range of ready-to-drink cocktails that come with under 69 calories per can ($6.50) – and in topics of Amalfi Spritz, Classico, and G&T.

Melati

Swearing off alcohol? Not a problem. You can still get in the festivities and raise a toast with a non-alcoholic tipple or two. Melati ($68) is a non-alcoholic aperitif made with 26 ethically sourced botanicals that claim to boost mood and detoxify. Each batch is made with our artificial flavours and sweeteners, comes with only 12 calories, and is vegan-friendly. The taste is fruity, floral, and spicy all at once, and the drink is best enjoyed simply with some tonic or soda water and ice.

Non

Non is a zero-alcohol wine alternative started by an ex-Noma chef. Based in Australia, the brand specialises in creating refined alternatives – capturing nuances you’ll typically expect in a bottle, but without the ABV. Its minimally designed packaging makes it a perfect fit for any cellars as well. Try the Non 1, with salted raspberry and chamomile that references a Pet Nat; or the carbonated Non 2, made with caramelised pear and kombu that brings to mind a refreshing cider.

Seedlip

Botanical ingredients are distilled by this British drink maker to create this non-alcoholic spirit. The popular Grove 42 is a bright, summery creation bursting with orange, lemon peel, lemongrass, and ginger; while Spice 94 is a warm, spice-scented blend of cardamom and oak. Its spot on the shelves of top restaurants and bars in Singapore is also proof of Seedlip’s taste.

Carlsberg

For those who prefer to crack open a cold pint can look towards Carlsberg’s alcohol-free range. There are two variants to choose from, each with no more than 0.5 percent ABV. Pilsner comes with a crispy, hoppy taste; while Wheat is suffused with aromas of citrus and clove.
