Nestled between Woodlands' liveliness and Sembawang's tranquility, Admiralty is Singapore's hidden gem, often overlooked but teeming with charm. It's more than just a neighbourhood; it's a maritime powerhouse. Think shipyards, ports, and naval facilities. As its name suggests, Admiralty bears the historical mark of the extensive British Naval Base established between 1923 and 1941 in the vicinity.

Today, it's a dynamic blend of residential and commercial areas. When leisure calls, the Woodlands Waterfront Park offers coastal serenity, while the Manhattan office-inspired O/T Bar shakes innovative cocktails – a first of its kind in the north. For more things to do, eat, drink, and shop, check out our Admiralty guide.

A stone’s throw away from the Admiralty MRT station, Woodlands Galaxy Community Club bears the façade of ordinary community centres. But what lies inside makes it extraordinary. Besides your usual facilities like badminton courts, events spaces and a gym, it is also home to the Andromeda Observatory which features a 30cm telescope that gives astrophiles the best view into space. With clear skies, you can catch a detailed look at the moon, a glimpse of stars, and if you're lucky, other planets too.

Take a wild ride down any one of the 26 unique slides at three main play areas: Junior Play, Adventure Play, and Family Terracing Play. The young and the young-at-heart can slide down The Curved Roller Slide, a 34m-long outdoor slide lined with black tubes similar to that of a conveyor belt for easy sliding. Besides the slides, there’s an inclusive playground fitted with a wheelchair swing and merry-go-round to support play between children with and without needs.

The owner of this unpretentious bar made a culinary trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand to perfect the art of mookata. For the uninitiated, it's a cooking method similar to a Chinese hot pot, but with charcoal. At The Carpenters Bar, you can sample the taste of the mookata platter (from $44) with fresh draught beers on tap including Carlsberg, 1664 Blanc, and Asahi Black, as well as bottled beers and wine. Bar bites are available too, and with fun activities such as karaoke, darts, pool and card games, a weekend wind down will never be the same.
