While some turned to baking sourdough to get through the stay-home period, others (like us) were busy bingeing on Netflix’s Selling Sunset to help past the time. The show’s premise is simple: a group of highly attractive real estate agents go around Los Angeles selling equally gorgeous homes. But stunning mansions aside, the interpersonal drama has us hooked. These glamorous real estate agents party, squabble, make up, backstab, plan weddings, and of course, sell houses – all while wearing stiletto heels.

We had the chance to speak to three of the cast: Amanza Smith, Mary Fitzgerald, and Romain Bonnet following the premiere of season three. These days, aside from selling houses and hustling at The Oppenheim Group, the cast members from the show – alongside over 160 other stars and talents – can also be found on ACE, an online personalised video platform, where users can ‘book’ an individualised virtual shoutout for friends and loved ones.

Amanza, how do you manage to juggle the responsibilities of being a working mum?

Amanza, how do you manage to juggle the responsibilities of being a working mum?

I do it for my kids. I have full custody of them, so there is not one day I can wake up and not push forward. The more successful I get, the hungrier I get and I just go for it. The kids keep me motivated. And I drink wine, a lot, too.

What was it like for you to watch the show and relive some of the more difficult situations?

What was it like for you to watch the show and relive some of the more difficult situations?

Mary: Parts of it were really hard. I cried many times when I watched the scene with Chrishell.

Romain: We don’t get to see everything or know what exactly will happen. So there are some scenes in the show that surprise us just as much.

Amanza: It’s emotional. Seeing Chrishell with her broken heart, for example, that was gut-wrenching. Also, you get to hear what other people say that you don’t know.

What other shows are you currently bingeing?

Mary: Romain and I are both watching Lucifer right now. We love Lucifer.

Amanza: When I’m able to watch television, it’s usually with my children. What are they watching on Netflix? I don’t even know. A kid show? I probably don’t even know the name of it. But, I did watch both seasons of You a few months back.

Amanza and Mary, what advice do you have for fellow women who are hustling hard?

Amanza and Mary, what advice do you have for fellow women who are hustling hard?

Mary: Don’t give up on your dreams. Find out whatever it takes to achieve your goals. It’s not easy, but with a lot of hard work, you get there.

Amanza: For me, because I’m 43, a lot of people think that they have to achieve success by a certain age. There is no age limit. Don’t give up just because you feel like you’re reaching your peak. A lot of successful women in the world started in their late 40s.

Where’s the first place you want to travel to once borders reopen?

Romain: We are planning to head to Bali for our honeymoon, but we were stopped at the airport and couldn’t make it due to this whole situation. Bali is definitely one of our top destinations.

Mary: The second that borders open, we’re on the plane. We need a vacation because we’ve been working too hard.

Amanza: And what they don’t know is that I’m actually going with them. I don’t have anyone to take with me to Bali but I am definitely itching for a resort vacation.

What would you say is the biggest misconception of your job that isn’t portrayed on screen?

What would you say is the biggest misconception of your job that isn’t portrayed on screen?

Mary: It makes it look so easy, and that you can just jump in, get your license, and sell $10 million houses. It’s not like that. You have to work for months and months, even years sometimes, to build a client base and know what you’re doing. There’s a lot more that goes into it, and it’s not always a glamorous as the show makes it look.

Romain: I don’t know if people realise how much time it takes to build these houses.

Amanza: I agree with Mary – it’s not as easy it looks. Being the newest agent at the brokerage, I still have to have someone hold my hand and walk me through a transaction. We got put on lockdown 24 hours after we finished our last day of filming. So for me, it’s been difficult because, in order to curate clients, you need to be active and social, attend events and meet new people. And I haven’t been able to do that. You have to put in countless hours in hopes of getting a sale.

Romain, do you still think Davina is a snake?

(laughs) Yea, same position. I am just happy without her in my life.
