Boring, business-like, not much to do – those are common misconceptions most have of city hotels in Singapore. When choosing staycation options, many would overlook those in the Central Business District (CBD) and instead go for properties in places like Sentosa, Robertson Quay or Orchard Road.

Oakwood Premier AMTD Singapore, a luxury hotel slash serviced apartment offering a wide range of amenities and activities with views to boot. Don't believe us? Want a cosy apartment-style room? Book the one-bedroom premier bedroom (from $320), which comes with a plush king-size bed, fully-fitted luxe bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and separate living room area complete with a 49-inch Smart TV.

With the building's history as the former DBS Building Towers, the property has had to work around the existing architecture when designing the rooms. Hence, each guest room at Oakwood Premier AMTD Singapore is unique, even if they are under the same room category. We were lucky enough to be treated to breathtaking views of the harbour, a rarity in Singapore's hotels.

The property's location in the heart of the CBD also means that it's within proximity to some of the city's most popular biking trails. In fact, the property has recently launched its Bike & Chill package which allows you to rent a bicycle to explore the cycling trails around the area. Step on the paddle and head on to the Marina Bay area or Gardens By The Bay, which are stunning places to see the sunrise. And if you're feeling extra adventurous, head to East Coast Park via the park connector.

Want to bring your own bicycle? There's also an option for a free one-way bike transfer. Otherwise, you'll get a $70 dining credit in addition to vouchers from A-Cycle and The Big Country, bicycle parking in an allocated bicycle shed and other hotel perks.

Breakfast

What's a staycation without a delicious breakfast? Breakfast here is served at SE7ENTH, the property's in-house restaurant. Sure, breakfast buffets feel like a past life now. But the selection here is the second best thing. You can choose from three different breakfast sets: the American Breakfast Set, Local Breakfast Set and Continental Breakfast Set. Each set comes with a choice of coffe/tea and juice. Want to elevate your breakfast? Guests get 15 percent off the brunch menu

Cocktails shaken up outside your room

We may not be able to enjoy an evening at the bar with music thumping due to the restrictions right now, but why not take it to the room with Oakwood's roving hotel club lounge service?

Perfect for the strange times we're living in, the mobile bar is a signature experience where you get crafted cocktails and canapés served a la minute in the comforts of your guest room two times from 7pm to 10pm. Our bartender Kathir served up refreshing tipples like the award-winning Champion's Cocktail and Se7enth Wonder, complemented by a delicious selection of canapes. Sipping the cocktails while enjoying the room's stunning views and the music playing from the in-room Bluetooth speakers took us back to simpler days, even if momentarily.

Stunning pool views

On the seventh floor, you'll find the property's infinity pool, which overlooks views of the surrounding skyscrapers and the harbour in the distance. Laze out on the loungers by the pool while sipping on a drink from the property's bar, or soak in the hot tub. Due to current restrictions, you'll have to book your slot before heading to the pool.
