We might be fresh off our Time Out Recommends 2025 café round-up, but that isn't stopping us from exploring the city for new finds. This round, we've shortlisted five recently-opened cafés in Singapore, including a cosy Korean nook in Scape serving up coffee cocktails, and a spacious Japandi-style hideaway in the heart of Jurong. Add those to a fuss-free bakery in Joo Chiat with authentic French viennoiseries, a shokupan and matcha-obsessed café in Telok Ayer, and a work-friendly spot in Chinatown, and you've now got five distinct spots to add to your weekly rotation. Here are five new cafés in Singapore worth checking out right now.

1. Hanco Coffee

Specialty coffee and cheesecakes go hand in hand at this gorgeous new café in the recently revamped Scape. Located right beside froyo joint Yoajang – another Korean brand – Hanco looks like it's plucked straight out of Seoul as well, with light wooden furniture, on-point aesthetics and photo-worthy spots at every corner. The café serves a regular line-up of espresso-based coffee, but the highlight here is the specialty coffee or coffee cocktails. These colourful creations will set you back around $12 per drink, and come in wacky and wonderful flavours, from mango sticky rice to miso soup and onigiri. The dirty coffee series, which features hot espresso over cold milk, is especially popular. And while the bestselling rice dirty has recently been swapped out for brown rice tea, there are still plenty of other variations to try, including pandan coconut, yuzu and black sesame. Don't leave without ordering the truffle burnt basque cheesecake crowned with parma ham shavings, which sounds as luscious as it looks.

Address: Orchard Link, Scape, #02-08, Singapore 237978
Opening hours: Mon-Thu 10am-7pm; Fri-Sun 10am-8pm

2. Bastille Bakery

Spot this bright blue awning along café-dense Joo Chiat, and you'll find yourself at Bastille Bakery, a new bakery-café that just opened this October. The scent of fresh pastries fills the air as soon as you walk in, and the counter is lined with everything from buttery croissants to glossy eclairs. Bastille's founder, JD, is a true-blue Parisian who has trained in Versailles and worked in kitchens all across the world, only to find himself in humble Joo Chiat, serving up authentic French pastries to the neighbourhood. All his viennoiseries are freshly made in-house daily, and noticeably plain-looking, without much toppings or flourishes, just high-quality ingredients and a perfected recipe. Grab a simple cup of coffee to go with a croissant or pain au chocolat, just as you would in a Parisian bakery. Regulars also sing praises about the pecan tart, praline eclairs, yuzu tart, quiche and almond cream croissants. The list goes on: soft, crispy madeleins, chocolate hazelnut cookies, airy choquettes, nutty financiers and butter pound cakes are all available too – just make sure to head down early before they sell out.

3. All Hands

You might recognise this striking cobalt-blue building along Telok Ayer Street, once home to the steakhouse Boeuf, where folks around the area would flock to for an affordably priced ribeye. The team has since decided to do away with steaks in favour of café fare, and in particular, shokupan toasts and matcha desserts. Pillowy-soft Japanese shokupan is the highlight here, and these form the base for all sorts of toppings, whether it's the café's signature combination of kaya custard with snow-shaved butter and eggs, or familiar childhood flavours like Milo Dinosaur and peanut butter and jam ($8.94 each). Those visiting after 11am for brunch can dig into Asian-inspired pasta like the laksa with barramundi ($23.49) or Prawn Identity ($23.49), cooked in a heady tiger prawn stock. The memory of Boeuf is alive as well, with some of the restaurant's bestsellers still offered on All Hands' menu, like the Rossini ($47.49), Bourguignon ($32.49) and steak tartare ($24.49). And if you're opening a café in 2025, you have to have matcha on the menu – All Hands offers a whole range of matcha desserts, with specials like the matcha banana pudding ($6.49) and matcha crème brûlée ($8.49).

Address: 159 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068614
Opening hours: Daily 8am-5pm

4. Fernweh

This new café in Chinatown has that breezy, Scandi aesthetic nailed down to a tee. Fernweh is located inside BEAT.1932 Hostel, and you'll recognise its pastel, multicoloured shopfront almost immediately. The outdoor seating area is pet-friendly, and the interiors are equally gorgeous and fitted with power plugs and free wifi, perfect if you're in need of a mid-day productivity sesh. Fuel up on coffee ($4 for a latte) or snacks like cheesy rendang beef spring rolls, mala tofu fries, wasabi prawn bao slides and truffle tater tots. For something more substantial, Fernweh offers Asian-inspired mains like chilli crab pasta and beef rendang eggs benedict as well. But a must-try here are the desserts, particularly the carrot cake and sesame tang yuan fritters, with the latter combining black sesame ice cream and tang yuan together with crunchy peanut bits for a mix of textures. By evening, the café transforms into a cosy bar, slinging everything from classic cocktails to quirky creations like a boozy Milo tipple.

5. Van Kafe

It's not everyday you find a café in the west of Singapore blowing up on social media, but Van Kafe's spacious, Japandi-style interiors have drawn quite some attention recently. With a space this big and queues averaging about an hour currently, it's not surprising if the quality of the dishes takes a slight hit at the start. Nevertheless, the trip to Jurong East might be worth a one-time journey, even if just to admire the café's breezy, glasshouse-like aesthetics, or to let your pets roam around the sprawling outdoor area. The menu offers brunch classics and several Asian dishes, with popular orders being the cod fish and chips, seafood chilli padi pasta and prawn custard brioche toast. Van Kafe also offers 10 cocktails on its menu, including classics like martinis and whisky sours, as well as signatures like Ojisan Met Cinnamon – a whisky, honey and cinnamon blend – and Spicy Lips, with spice-infused gin, lemongrass and lime. These are ideal for winding down in the evenings, especially since the café stays opens till 10.30pm on weekends.

Address: 2 Jurong Gateway Rd, #01-02, Singapore 608512
Opening hours: Mon-Fri noon-10pm; Sat-Sun noon-10.30pm
