Who said you can’t get a decent meal in Orchard Road for under $10? The basement at Tangs just got a facelift, and it’s now home to plenty of well-known F&B brands, from Plain Vanilla and Percolate to Roti Boy and Supergreen. It also welcomes a new food court – Hawkers’ Street – which brings together 15 crowd-favourite hawker stalls, of which six are even listed on the Michelin Guide. Here’s a quick glance at all of the wallet-friendly, Michelin-approved eats offered at Hawkers’ Street.

1. Tai Wah Pork Noodle

Not to be confused with the one-Michelin-starred Tai Hwa Pork Noodle at Crawford Lane, Tai Wah Pork Noodle is an equally-studded bak chor mee stall which has picked up multiple hawker awards over the years, and even a Bib Gourmand listing. The brand has come a long way from its humble beginnings at a coffeeshop at Hill Street in 1939, now running over 10 outlets islandwide. A basic bowl of pork noodles starts at $6.50, but the bestseller is Tai Wah's signature pork noodles ($10.50) served alongside a bowl of meatball and dumpling soup. We like that each bowl comes with a generous amount of pork slices, several pieces of savoury and slightly bitter tee poh (dried sole fish), and liver slices.
2. Fei Fei Roasted Noodle

Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee Fei Fei started out in Redhill and Ghim Moh 40 years ago, before making its way to Jurong East's Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre. But you won't have to travel to the west anymore for a taste of its well-glazed, caramelised char siew chunks. The fat-to-meat ratio of Fei Fei's char siew is just right, while its egg noodles are springy and topped with a sprinkling of crispy pork lard. The char siew wonton noodle set is the stall's signature ($6.50), but it also offers roast pork ($6.50), roast duck ($6.90) and wonton noodle soup ($6.50). A trio roast platter over rice or noodles goes for $11.90, while the roast duck starts at $19 per quarter.
3. Tai Seng Fish Soup

Fish soup is a comforting lunch favourite, especially for office folks stuck in cubbies where the A/C is perpetually on full blast. Third-gen hawker brand Tai Seng Fish Soup has been given the Bib Gourmand nod of approval for its savoury fish and vegetable broth. That said, you can also customise your soup base to include milk or swap it out for a punchy tom yum base. Then, pick your toppings, with options like sliced fish, fried fish or mixed (each from $6.50). You can also enjoy seafood like prawns and clams ($8.50) or fried fish head ($6.50). A good amount of fried egg floss gives the soup more character and flavour, and if it's not enough, you can also top up $3.50 for an extra serving of egg floss.
4. Springleaf Prata Place

Yes, it's better known as a supper dish, but if you happen to be in town and are craving Springleaf Prata Place's Michelin Bib Gourmand prata, here's where you can get your fix. The store was founded back in 2003, but has since become a fail-proof spot for North Indian and South Indian staples. Dig into over 20 prata combinations, from kosong (plain) prata ($1.50) to a hefty egg cheese and chicken floss prata ($7.90), or satisfy that sweet tooth with a banana chocolate prata ($5.30). Apart from the classics, this joint also serves up popular items from its Sunset Way menu like the Murtaburger ($9.90) and Plaster Blaster ($7). There's still more – load up on over 10 types of thosai (from $2.60), or dig into plates of biryani (from $4) or maggie goreng ($6.50).
5. Hup Hong Chicken Rice

No food court is complete without a chicken rice stall, and at Hawkers' Street, the spot is filled by Bib Gourmand-awarded Hup Hong Chicken Rice. Similar to Fei Fei, the original stall is located at Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre in Jurong East, with snaking queues during daily lunch hours. Both steamed and roasted chicken are served ($5.30), with a unique half-and-half option ($6.30). Hup Hong's poached chicken is known to have a slightly gelatinous texture, but it's the chilli sauce that regulars usually sing praises about for its punchy, sour kick. This Hawkers' Street outlet also lets you top up for chicken liver ($3) and gizzard ($1) – not commonly seen in food courts.
6. Loong Kee Yong Tau Fu

Another Jurong gem makes its way to the heart of Orchard. Michelin Plate awardee Loong Kee Yong Tau Fu is originally located in Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre, where its deep-fried tau kwa and fried meatballs demand to be replenished every few hours thanks to their popularity. Enjoy your yong tau fu in three ways – with a rich laksa broth, boiled in soup, or deep fried and served with chewy, slippery strands of chee cheong fun ($2). There's a minimum order of seven pieces or six pieces with noodles, where each piece is priced at either $1 or $1.20, depending on the item.
Hawkers' Street at Tangs is open daily from 8.30am to 9.30pm at 310 Orchard Rd, Tang Plaza, Basement 1, Singapore 238864.
