On the menu: house-made lemak kaya toast, sock-brewed kopi, cream horns, chiffon cakes, luncheon meat buns and kaya french toast

After a century of proudly holding down the fort in Katong, the beloved heritage breakfast institution is finally expanding beyond its East Coast home, with a new outlet set to open at Nex in Serangoon in Q3 2026.
And before Easties start panicking: don’t worry, the original East Coast Road outlet isn’t going anywhere. But for those who’ve always loved Chin Mee Chin in theory and hated the journey in practice, they’re now meeting you halfway.
If you haven’t been or heard of Chin Mee Chin, here’s a rundown: The breakfast place has been a Singapore institution since 1925, beloved for its marble-topped tables, nostalgic charm and old-school teatime staples. The confectionery famously shuttered in 2018 due to manpower and succession issues before making a comeback in 2021 under F&B company Ebb & Flow Group, together with founder family members Sharon Tan and her mother.
The Nex branch, conveniently near Serangoon MRT, is expected to bring along the full retro dream team: house-made lemak kaya toast, sock-brewed kopi, cream horns, chiffon cakes, luncheon meat buns, plus all the old-school bakes that somehow taste like childhood in edible form. Newer favourites introduced after its revival – including the indulgent kaya french toast – are also expected to make the trip.

Chin Mee Chin’s new branch will be located at Nex, 23 Serangoon Central, #B2-60/61, Singapore 556083.
