After 17 years, the Circle Line is finally having its full-circle moment – the last three MRT stations, Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road, are officially opening on July 12, marking the completion of the Circle Line’s sixth and final stage.

Announced back in 2015 and originally meant to roll out in 2025, the 4km stretch hit the brakes due to Covid-19 disruptions and tunnel-strengthening works. Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow revealed the opening date on May 14 after what might be Singapore’s chicest MRT event to date: a graduate fashion runway show by LASALLE College of the Arts at Cantonment station, with models strutting down an MRT platform.

Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward Road MRT stations will officially close the loop between HarbourFront and Marina Bay, bringing the Circle Line to a whopping 33 stations across 39km, with 12 interchange stations in the mix.

For west-siders and city workers, this means speedier trips too. A journey from Telok Blangah to Marina Bay, for instance, currently involves a relay race across the Circle, North East and North-South lines. Once the extension opens, those transfers vanish, shaving around 10 minutes off travel time.

Each station also comes with its own architectural personality. Keppel station, tucked along Keppel Road and serving the future Greater Southern Waterfront, features vent shafts inspired by HarbourFront’s cable cars. Cantonment Station – built beneath the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station – borrows design cues from the historic railway landmark, complete with curved ceilings and oversized artwork lining the platform. Meanwhile, Prince Edward Road tips its hat to Singapore’s maritime past, drawing inspiration from the waterfront and seafaring communities that shaped the island.

Before the official launch, interested commuters can take the trio for a free spin on July 4, from 9.30am to 9pm, when the public gets a preview ride between the stations for free.

However, do note that from now until July 12, weekend Circle Line hours remain slightly wonky while final testing wraps up. On Saturdays, trains clock out earlier at 11pm, while Sundays start fashionably late at 9am.
